Prepare to be swept away on Friday 17th August with River Discovery Day at Riverwatch, Loughs Agency’s interpretative centre on Victoria Road. From 12.00 noon to 3.30pm visit the centre to discover more about the wildlife and heritage around the Faughan and Foyle rivers.
Faughan Valley Landscape Partnership, Loughs Agency and Creggan Country Park will be running a variety of fun activities to keep the whole famly amused while helping them to learn more about our local rivers and catchments. Don’t miss the opportunity to see river and marine wildlife up close in the Riverwatch Exhibition and learn more about the mammals and birds that live in these areas.
Gillian Simpson, Education Manager at Loughs Agency stated that “not to be missed activities include bug sampling, dissection workshops and feeding time of the Riverwatch residents.’
Information will be available on threats to our river systems and while adults can find out more at the Poster exhibition, young people and the young at heart can try their hands with art workshops, wildlife trails and an exciting mammal track competition that could win them the top prize of a family day out at Oakfire Adventures at Ness in the Faughan Valley.
This is a Faughan Valley Landscape Partnership event organised by Creggan Country Park. The event is funded by the Northern Ireland Rural Development Programme 2007 -2013 through Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Derry City Council and Heritage Lottery Fund.
RAPID, Derry City Council and the Woodland Trust have come together to form the Landscape Partnership which aims to "create a vibrant, natural and cultural diverse landscape within the Faughan Valley that the whole community appreciates, and is engaged with, making it a sustainable landscape for living.' Heritage Lottery Fund supports the scheme through its Landscape Partnership Fund.
